In this post, we explained step by step processes of LPG Storage Tank Manufacturing/ Production Process with the material selection. What is LPG or LP gas and LPG Storage Tank are added to the post.

Aziza MES Limited manufacture and supply LPG and LPG Tank of all sizes across Nigeria and beyond. LPG Storage Tank has the design & fabrication capacity of LPG stationary storage tanks including above-ground tanks, underground tanks and mounded tanks etc. All kinds of tanks could be customized according to the customers’ requirements.

What is Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG)?

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), also called LP gas, any of several liquid mixtures of the volatile hydrocarbons propene, propane, butene, and butane. It was used as early as 1860 for a portable fuel source, and its production and consumption for both domestic and industrial use have expanded ever since. A typical commercial mixture may also contain ethane and ethylene, as well as a volatile mercaptan, an odorant added as a safety precaution.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) is recovered from “wet” natural gas (gas with condensable heavy petroleum compounds) by absorption. The recovered product has a low boiling point and must be distilled to remove the lighter fractions and then be treated to remove hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, and water. The finished product is transported by pipeline and by specially built seagoing tankers. Transportation by pipeline, truck and barge are major part of Liquefied petroleum gas transportation system in Nigeria.

What is LPG Storage Tanks?

The LPG storage tank is a stable metal pressure vessel, for gas storage, with more than 150 liters, cylindrical or spherical, which meets the requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive as standards stipulated.

Installations fueled by LPG tanks are mainly used in the industrial and catering (restaurants, hotels, etc) sector but also in private residencies, when there is space available for the installation of the tank.

What material is LPG tank?

What are LPG Tanks Made Of? LPG tanks are typically made of welded steel, aluminium or composites. Steel is by far the most common material, as it is the easiest to fabricate and it is a low-cost material. Some cylinders are made of aluminium or composites to save on weight, but not larger tanks.

Production Process of LPG Storage Tank with Material Selection

The design, material selection and production process of the liquefied petroleum gas LPG storage tank, and also determine the tolerability and safety characteristics of the liquefied petroleum gas station builders, the use of durable LPG storage tanks can inspections. Therefore, understand the process of high-quality LPG storage tanks, produced by large manufacturers with perfect systems are particularly important.

  1. Tank Material Selection:

The LPG storage tank body is made of three types of pressure vessel special steel plate with a standard strength. It has good comprehensive mechanical properties and process performance, corrosion resistance, high temperature resistance and good performance. Similarly, the advantages and disadvantages of the processing technology of steel lead to different material properties and different price differences, it is necessary to use steel plates produced by large-scale steel mills in the formal process.

  1. Welding Process

The LPG tank body is welded by the cylinder body and the head. According to the volumetric size, the cylinder body needs to be divided into several sections, the welding must first weld the inner ring joint, the outer ring joint is welded by the air plane welding, and the automatic ring seam welding. Process quality control points:

(a)        The use of automatic loop welding equipment with excellent technology can ensure the stability of the solder joints well, and the surface joints are even and smooth to meet the process requirements.

(b)        The welds are not allowed to cross the horizontal distance between the longitudinal joints of the two cylinders should be greater than reasonable measurement to ensure the safety performance of the LPG storage tank.

  1. Valve fittings and Flange selection:

Valve fittings such as: manhole cover need to use large manufacturers to produce three stages forgiving forgings, safety valves, manual release valves, thermometer level gauges, etc., using brand quality guarantee products, can effectively ensure the safety and inspection of later the LPG tanks.

  1. Rigorous Flaw Detection System:

The rigorous flaw detection report is the basis for ensuring the quality of the LPG storage tank weld, the subsequent service life inspection and testing.

  1. Heat Treatment Process:

The heat treatment equipment must be a professional equipment with a sealed constant temperature. For the setting of the temperature curve, the length of the heating time must be strictly required. The heat treatment process using the resistance wire heating can well form relaxation inside the tank body, eliminate various stresses, and ensure that the LPG storage tank body does not deform and leaks to prolong its service life.

  1. Tank Paint Spraying

The process is as follows sanding and derusting the tank, spraying anti-rust paint, hanging the ion paint, and then spraying the primer and the top coat. Excellent paint processing technology can ensure the LPG storage tank is in use. After more than ten years of wind and sun, it will not fade. It will not fall off paint. It will not rust and prevent the external corrosion of the tank.

In conclusion, the steps outlined above on LPG Storage Tank Production Process with the material selection are the basics. The specification of the Storage Tank may differ in the outline process.
