What is a Reticulated/ Central Gas Supply System?
Reticulated Piped Gas System is supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) through a network of pipelines, from a centralized cylinder bank / manifold system or a Bulk Installation (Bullet, specifically for commercial applications) to customer (end user’s) kitchen and other gas appliances like geyser.
This is achieved by reducing the Storage Pressure (In LPG cylinders or tanks) to appliance pressure by means of suitable Pressure regulators with the extreme safety.
In this system, you get metered cooking gas delivered via pipelines straight to your home and pay for it exactly as you would pay your light bill. There is no cylinder involved.
Safety appliances like Filters, Over Pressure Shut Off Device (OPSO), Slam Shut Off Regulator, Relief Valves, etc are used in the system to enhance the safety of the installation. Need for Central Gas Supply System in Nigeria
Nigeria requires about $750m investment in the transportation and retailing infrastructure for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), popularly called cooking gas, to achieve the target of five million metric tonnes of annual consumption, operators in the LPG space have said.
It was also stated that Nigeria had the fastest growing LPG sector in the world with a projected LPG market size of $10bn, as the annual per capita consumption of LPG had risen from 1.8kg in 2015 to 5kg in 2021.
Nigeria’s domestic consumption of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) increased to 635,452.061 MT in 2018 and 840,594.37 MT in 2019, an increase of 60.5 per cent. The domestic consumption exceeded 1 million Metric Tons (MT) in 2020.
In 2022, Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited delivered only 40% of Nigeria’s liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) demand. The 60% shortfall was then imported by marketers.

According to Nigeria Midstream Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency (NMDPRA), Nigeria exported 700,000 Tons of LPG in 2022. In the same year, Nigeria consumed 1.4Million Tons, out of which 800,000Tons were imported.
However, this huge growth are restrictions by way of domestic availability. Lack of infrastructural facilities and shortage of gas has hampered the growth of the Petroleum Gas Companies. Today the public sector units are in no position to increase their bottling capacity.
