In this post, we explained the general parameters and requirements for popular Surface / Above-Ground LPG storage tanks design and installation for storage, distribution and/or filling stations (gas).

LPG (gas) storage tank is one of the main equipment of LPG distribution and filling stations. There are two storage methods of LPG storage tanks.

Storage Methods of  Tanks
1. Surface / Above-Ground LPG storage tanks.
Surface / Above-Ground is the type of tank that are designed and installed in a surface for Gas/ LPG storage mostly used in gas filling stations and can also be used for chemical storage in the chemical industry.

2. Underground LPG storage tanks.
The underground is suitable for customers who have limited site area LPG storage, distribution or/and filling stations. The underground design can have the distance between the storage tank and the building, greatly utilize the land area, and save land costs for customers. At the same time, the overall appearance and coordination after installation is conducive to the layout and adjustment of the gas station on the ground.

The production process of both Surface / Above-Ground and Underground is the same. The main difference is the position of the tank accessories and the surface paint of the tank body. The various accessories of the underground LPG storage tank are concentrated in a convenient position for maintenance and other uses.

Benefits of Surface LPG storage tanks

  1. Surface tanks are technicians easier install and repairs.
  2. Surface tanks are easier to fill and check how much gas/ propane is left in the tank.
  3. Surface Gas storage tank Installation and maintenance is cheaper than underground tank.
  4. Portable and easier to move and may uses fewer gas/ propane lines.

Requirements

  1. Storage tanks should be arranged in a single row, and the clear distance between storage tanks should not be less than the diameter of the adjacent larger tank.
  2. A protective embankment with a height of 1m shall be set around the tank group, and the clear distance from the line of the embankment.
  3. The support of the storage tank shall be reinforced concrete support, and its fire resistance rating shall not be less than 5h.
